Upgrade Your Wellness for Less: Use Your HSA/FSA Funds for Lumity

Most people think of their HSA or FSA as a fund for co-pays and prescriptions. But those pre-tax dollars can work harder than that – and your Lumity Morning & Night supplement is proof.

Through our partnership with TrueMed, Morning & Night is now eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement. That means if you have one of these accounts through your employer (and millions of Americans do), you could save up to 30% on your supplement simply by spending money you've already set aside.*

Here's everything you need to know, without the confusing jargon.

*On average, 30% of gross income is paid to state and federal tax. Individual tax rates vary. To see your estimated savings, check out the TrueSavings Estimator.

What Are HSA and FSA Funds?

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) are employer-linked programs that let you set aside a portion of your paycheck before taxes to spend on qualifying health expenses – things like doctor visits, prescriptions, and even certain wellness products.

The key word is pre-tax. Because the money in these accounts has never been taxed, every dollar goes further. On average, Americans pay around 30% of their income in state and federal taxes, so spending $100 of HSA or FSA funds is the equivalent of spending roughly $70 of regular after-tax income. The savings add up quickly.

The difference between the two:

An HSA is available if you're enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). It's particularly flexible – the funds roll over year after year and can even be invested. In 2025, individuals can contribute up to $4,150 per year, or $8,300 for a family (with an additional $1,000 if you're 55 or older).

An FSA is more common and is available through a wider range of employer health plans. Individuals can contribute up to $3,200 per year, with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed. One important distinction: FSA funds typically expire at the end of the year, so unused money doesn't roll over. If you have FSA funds left, using them before December 31st is a smart move.

Not sure whether you have one? Check with your HR department or your health insurance provider.

Why Is Morning & Night Eligible?

It turns out the definition of a 'qualifying medical expense' is broader than your annual check-up – HSA and FSA accounts were originally designed for straightforward medical expenses, but the rules also allow funds to be used on products and services that treat or prevent a diagnosed medical condition.

This is where TrueMed comes in.

TrueMed is a platform that connects customers with licensed clinicians who review their health information and, where appropriate, issue a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). This letter is the key document that makes your Lumity purchase a qualifying medical expense – in the same way a prescription or a specialist visit would be.

The process takes about a minute, it's completely free for Lumity customers, and once your LMN is issued, it's valid for 12 months – so you won't need to repeat the process every time you reorder.

How Much Could You Save?

What will you do with your savings – will you treat yourself to more matchas, a Pilates membership, or keep it in the bank? How much you can save depends on your personal tax rate, but the average saving is around 30% when using pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars versus paying out of pocket. You can use TrueMed's TrueSavings Estimator to calculate your individual savings based on your income.

For context, a 12-week supply of Lumity Morning & Night is $378. At a 30% effective saving, that's over $110 back in your pocket – just by using money you'd already set aside.

Still Have Questions?

Is Lumity HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes! Through our partnership with Truemed, you can pay for your selected Lumity purchases with your HSA/FSA. Learn how, here (link to your landing page).

How does using my HSA/FSA account save me money?

HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in their health.

An individual can contribute up to $4,150 pretax to their HSA per year, or $8,300 for a family (plus an additional $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old. Individuals can contribute up to $3,200 pretax to their FSA per year (with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed).

What are FSA and HSA accounts?

Health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses. If you’re unsure whether or not you have an HSA or FSA account, please check with your employer or insurance company.

Can I use my HSA/ FSA card at Lumity?

We do not recommend attempting to checkout with your HSA/FSA cards for compliance purposes. We strongly encourage simply transacting with your normal credit or debit card, and submitting for reimbursement as outlined above for the greatest likelihood of success.

How long does HSA or FSA reimbursement take?

For most FSA/HSA administrators, your expenses will be approved within days when you submit your claim for reimbursement along with your receipt and a Letter of Medical Necessity. The exact timing will vary based on your administrator.

Do I need to take Truemed’s survey every time I make a purchase from Lumity?

If you have already received a Letter of Medical Necessity for purchasing specific products from a merchant, you do not need to complete Truemed’s survey again so long as your Letter of Medical Necessity remains valid. Letters of Medical Necessity are typically valid for 12 months after they are first issued. You do still need to submit your receipts for reimbursement with your HSA/FSA administrator.

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity, and how is this compliant?

The items in your Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity (“LMN”) are now qualified medical expenses in the same way a visit to the doctor’s office or pharmaceutical product is.There are thousands of studies showing food and exercise is often the best medicine to prevent and reverse disease. Exercise qualifies as a qualified medical expense with an LMN. Food, supplements, and other wellness purchases qualify as medical expenses if they treat or prevent an illness, and a doctor substantiates the need. Your Truemed LMN satisfies all IRS requirements to make your wellness spend fully reimbursable.

Are there fees associated with using Truemed's services?

There is no cost to you, as long as you are shopping with a Truemed partner merchant.

When should I use my FSA/HSA dollars?

You can use your HSA/FSA dollars all year long. However, FSA dollars expire at the end of the year and unused money may not rollover into the next year. Make sure to spend the rest of your FSA dollars before December 31st — use it, so you don’t lose it!

I don’t have enough funds in my HSA/FSA account to reimburse the entire purchase. Can I still use Truemed?

Yes. You can still submit for partial reimbursement. For example: if you purchase an eligible item for $100 but only have $60 in your account, you can reimburse $60 of your purchase with your tax-free funds (with the remaining $40 paid for as normal).

What if my reimbursement is rejected by my administrator?

Please contact TrueMed at support@truemed.com so their support team can help you troubleshoot the issue. HSA/FSA plan administrators often have detailed requirements, so it may be as simple as re-issuing your Letter of Medical Necessity using the administrator’s form.

I noticed first improvement in my sleep, followed by improved hair growth, hydration, skin clarity, and nail strength after a few months. As a result, my immune system seemed to improve.
